What does support deflection actually mean?
Deflection is when a customer gets their answer without a human touching the ticket. An AI trained on your help docs reads the question, finds the answer in your content, and replies, so the conversation closes on its own. The tickets that get deflected are the repetitive, already-documented ones, which frees your team for the messy problems that genuinely need a person.
How do I pick a realistic deflection rate?
Start from how much of your volume is repetitive and documented, then assume the AI resolves a portion of that without help. For most teams 50 to 80 percent of the answerable, documented questions is a fair range once the help docs are decent. The calculator separates the two on purpose: the share of tickets that are answerable, and the share of those the AI actually closes, so you are not hand-waving one optimistic number.
How is the money saved calculated?
It is labor time, not a software invoice. The tool multiplies deflected tickets by the minutes a human would have spent on each one to get hours saved, then multiplies by your fully loaded agent cost per hour. It then subtracts the small cost of the AI answers themselves, so you see the net. Everything is computed live from your inputs and nothing is sent anywhere.
What is fully loaded agent cost per hour?
It is the true cost of an hour of support, not just the hourly wage. Add payroll taxes, benefits, software seats and overhead, or just use your outsourcing or contractor rate. A higher, honest number gives you a more accurate savings figure than the bare wage.
